The City of Saarbrücken is commemorating the victims of Nazi tyranny who lived in Saarbrücken and the former Territory of the Saar Basin.

In awareness of this historical responsibility, the City of Saarbrücken is, among other things, creating sites of remembrance in public spaces to keep the collective memory of its past, the victims and the crimes perpetrated against them alive and as a solemn reminder not to forget.

The city’s historical responsibility to critically reflect on and engage with the issue of National Socialism derives from its past.

The interrupted forest

“The interrupted forest” is a memorial to the Jews from the Saar Region murdered under the Nazi regime. The sculpture, composed of 40 bronze, 1.10-metre-high tree trunks, is based on a concept by Darmstadt sculptor Prof. Ariel Auslender.
